ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Since August, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has received nearly 100 bear reports in Boulder County and urges Longmont residents to secure trash and pet food to deter bears as they search for food in both wooded and suburban areas. Wildlife officials warn that early reporting helps manage encounters before bears become more comfortable around people.  Colorado Hometown Weekly
  • Longmont launched its first community solar program, Iluminar, on Thursday with a 200-kilowatt system on the Waste Services building—about 30 households, including income-qualified customers, now have access to renewable energy and bill relief. A second project at the Ascent at Hover Crossing affordable housing site will begin early next year to expand solar access.  Longmont Times-Call

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Multiple road projects will affect travel in Boulder County and nearby neighborhoods as crews install lane closures and detours starting Oct. 4 and running into November and beyond—impacting Sugarloaf Road, 63rd Street, Colo. 52 and areas around Prince Lake Dam. Motorists should plan for delays on Meadow Sweet Lane and other roads while waterline, culvert, utility and street work continues through mid-month and into spring.  Longmont Times-Call

SPORTS NEWS

  • Holy Family Tigers beat Mead twenty-seven to twenty-one on Friday when Kaden Hopkin made a critical 38 yard play—his key moment that clinched the win. The Tigers gave Mead its first loss of the season and will host Littleton next Thursday while Mead faces Timnath.  Longmont Times-Call
  • On Saturday night, the Buffs led early at Amon G. Carter Stadium but fell to TCU 35—21 after missed chances while senior quarterback Kaidon Salter threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns—both to Omarion Miller—before key drives by TCU sealed the win.  Longmont Times-Call
  • High school teams from Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont played in week 6 as many Colorado Preps teams kept winning while some games saw late comebacks. Holy Family overcame a late deficit to beat Mead 27-21 and Broomfield defeated Longmont 50-7 — setting up key matchups for next week.  Longmont Times-Call
