EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday at 6 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Boulder County will host a virtual forum for the St. Vrain Valley school board candidates—citizens can submit questions online and the event will be recorded for later viewing.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boulder County is planning a 2026 general fund budget with cuts of about $5M that will reduce historic preservation, Head Start and floodplain planning services and add to the 90 positions already eliminated; additional cuts are expected at the Housing Authority and Public Health as the county works to address a structural deficit. Departments will present detailed numbers at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and community members can share feedback at the Oct. 14 public hearing—steps taken to find $30M to $40M in savings over three years.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

SPORTS NEWS

  • Peak to Peak and Jefferson Academy ended their rematch with a 0-0 draw on Thursday — both teams struggled to score — and Peak to Peak extended its home unbeaten streak to 20 games. Both teams will next face Denver Christian as they aim to improve their Metro League standings.  Longmont Times-Call
  • The Colorado football team felt it underachieved after five games, but TCU coach Sonny Dykes said the Buffs are on the verge of breaking through—despite close losses to top teams and a roster hit by injuries. Defensive lineman Gavriel Lightfoot had season-ending knee surgery and 15 players are listed as out for Saturday’s game at TCU.  Longmont Times-Call
  • CU Buffs coach JR Payne is building a new team for the 2025-26 season with 10 new players and only three returning players as the season starts Nov.6 with a home game against New Mexico. She said the team is quickly learning new drills and adjusting practice plans—injuries have limited some players, but she plans to use every drill to build strong team bonding.  Longmont Times-Call
