CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Longmont Public Library and Museum are hosting free Banned Books Week events that focus on challenged books & censorship. The museum hosts Books on the Chopping Block from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 400 Quail Road with staged readings and a Q&A, while the library displays challenged books and an art station and Director Jon Solomon noted most of these titles are checked out with a busy wait list. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Crossroads School in Longmont are learning life and work skills in hands-on classes that cover carpentry, automotive repair, financial literacy, and gardening. Several students have already built workbenches and learned to use power tools for the first time (teacher Barb Bulthuis said the program helps them plan for their future). Longmont Times-Call
- ➤ St. Vrain Valley Schools is hosting its annual musical instrument collection drive today and Friday at Lincoln School on Bowen St. in Longmont, where gently used instruments—except drum sets and upright pianos—are cleaned, tuned and repaired before being placed in classrooms or rented long-term. Donations can be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Longmont Times-Call

- ➤ Longmont Restaurant Week will offer special dishes from over 40 eateries as it kicks off today with a party at Winner’s Circle at 4 p.m.—the event runs through Oct.12 and ends with an industry night on Oct.13—while local organizers, led by founder Jennifer Ferguson, add chef demos and live cooking at the Farmers Market on Saturday.
