  • On October 20 at 10 p.m., skywatchers in Longmont will see the Great Square of Pegasus high on the north/south meridian and follow stars like Sheat and Markab to form the winged horse—astronomy enthusiasts can use a 3-inch telescope to spot deep-sky objects like NGC 7331. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Longmont City Council approved salary increases on Tuesday for the city manager, city attorney and municipal judge, setting their pay at 101% of the market rate. The raises mean that City Manager Harold Dominguez now earns $342,347—$21,359 more than before, City Attorney Eugene Mei's salary is raised to $279,303 with extra benefits, and Municipal Judge Robert Frick now earns $219,501.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Olympic hopeful Katie Bone, a 19-year-old American Ninja Warrior competitor managing Type 1 Diabetes with a tubeless insulin system, spoke before the Senate Committee to support renewed federal funding for the Special Diabetes Program—she hopes to qualify for the 2028 Olympics despite challenges from knee surgeries and unpredictable blood sugar levels.  Longmont Times-Call
  • On Wednesday, CU head coach Deion Sanders secured a verbal commitment from three-star receiver Christian Ward, boosting the 2026 class to 13 recruits after a previous pledge from four-star defensive lineman Emanuel Ruffin. Ward, rated among the top-80 receivers nationally by 247Sports and offered by 33 schools, chose CU over major programs like Alabama and Georgia—strengthening the Buffs’ recruiting success.  Longmont Times-Call
  • After a strong 9-0 start in nonconference games, the Colorado Buffs lost both matches to Colorado State and will kick off Big 12 play today at 6 p.m. against No. 14 BYU, then face No. 23 Utah at 1 p.m. Saturday — coach Jesse Mahoney said the team needs more scoring options ahead of tougher matches.  Longmont Times-Call
  • On September 24th at Ray Patterson Field, Mountain View won a close flag football game over Legacy when Jesika Hopkins intercepted a pass and scored with a 3-yard run in the final minutes.
