COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new memorial was dedicated in Mead at Founders Park to honor Gold Star Families, including local Longmont native Kyle Anderson, whose brother died in service. Town officials announced a $20,000 donation will fund two additional flagpoles—helping families gather to remember those lost.  Longmont Times-Call

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Firestone couple has opened The Quill & Candle Bookshop in Longmont’s Prospect New Town neighborhood to offer a cozy space with a wide range of books and comfortable seating for all ages. Owners Aubri and James Cook renovated the space over the summer and plan to add spooky decorations and hot chocolate on Oct. 31.  Longmont Times-Call

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • From Sept. 20-26, cone zones are in effect in Longmont and Boulder County where work on Coffman Street, Third Avenue, Sugarloaf Road and 63rd Street will limit lanes and cause delays until various closure dates—drivers should plan for temporary route changes. In Erie, a roundabout is being built at Jay Road while repairs on Colo. 52, Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation, street maintenance and a water main repair on Meadow Sweet Lane add to local traffic impacts.  Longmont Times-Call

SPORTS NEWS

  • Colorado Buffaloes safety Tawfiq Byard returned from injury by earning 14 tackles in a game against Houston on September 20th—he said competing with his brothers helped him prepare mentally and overcome setbacks.  Longmont Times-Call
  • On September 20th at Folsom Field, senior quarterback Kaidon Salter returned to the lineup and threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns while running for 86 yards and a touchdown to lead the Buffs to a 37—20 win over Wyoming in front of 53,442 fans during Family Weekend.  Longmont Times-Call
