COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Meals on Wheels Coal Creek is seeing a rise in demand for hot meals as many neighbors fear SNAP benefits cuts will force them to depend more on the service. Director Emma Gaulin said the group may soon face a waitlist and is working to increase capacity—neighbors rely on these deliveries to avoid hunger.  CBS Colorado
  • The Food Bank of the Rockies says 13% of adults now lack easy access to food, a 35% increase over the past five years. Meals on Wheels Coal Creek in Boulder County is set to serve 90,000 meals this year—up 25% from last year.  CBS Colorado

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Longmont will expand Sandstone Ranch Community Park in 2026 with four new ball fields, restrooms, shelters and parking—an update aimed at meeting growing youth sports demand and completing the park’s original vision. The proposed $11 million parks allocation is part of a broader capital program that also funds transportation, water and electric projects.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Many local preps teams take to the field and courts today and tomorrow. Soccer, golf, softball, volleyball and football games are set from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.—including the Monarch at Fairview contest on Friday and Silver Creek versus Bear Creek tonight.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Today, the Colorado Buffaloes women's soccer team, one of the nation’s top scoring clubs, begins Big 12 play against Kansas State at Prentup Field (7 p.m. on ESPN plus). Head coach Danny Sanchez said the team is planning to build momentum and will benefit from midfielder Ava Priest’s return after her recent injury recovery.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Mead’s volleyball team celebrated a milestone when senior libero Alana Costello recorded her 500th career dig during Tuesday night’s match as the Mavericks defeated Centaurus 26—24, 25—16 and 27—25. The team now looks ahead to GPL matches when they face top teams Erie on Oct. 2 and Niwot on Oct. 7 with hopes of reaching the state tournament at the Denver Coliseum.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Longmont golfer Wyatt Bogue tied for first on Wednesday at Fox Hill Invitational held on the course set to host the Class 4A boys golf state championships. Bogue shot a 1-under-par 69 and said his strong play has boosted his confidence for state—his score shows promise as local competitors gear up for the event.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said he expects Kaidon Salter to return as the starting quarterback in the upcoming game against Wyoming at 8:15 p.m. at Folsom Field—he said Salter showed calm leadership in practice and that a steady offense will help the team.  Longmont Times-Call
