COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community Food Share, which serves Boulder & Broomfield counties, will host two Day of Service projects as part of the Xcel Energy initiative to help Colorado families facing food insecurity.  CBS Colorado

CULTURE NEWS

  • Longmont’s downtown Main will transform tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. into a vibrant art festival with over 175 booths, six stages, and 10 food trucks—organized by the Firehouse Art Center, the event will feature live performances from the Centennial State Ballet and Denver-based ska band Roka Hueka and offer free admission to all visitors.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Longmont audiences can see Legally Blonde, The Musical at Jesters Dinner Theatre on Main Street through November 30—tickets cost $22 to $55. Residents also can watch You Can't Take it With You at Longmont Theatre Company from Oct. 3 to 5 while other plays run in Denver, Boulder, and nearby areas.  Longmont Times-Call
  • On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Longmont Museum hosted short films from the Boulder International Film Festival at 7 p.m. with ticket prices ranging from $8 to $12—earlier, the museum held an Art & Sip class and Carbon Valley Regional Library hosted a Youth Biz Academy for Young Entrepreneurs for ages 12 to 18.  Longmont Times-Call

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Longmont City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday night to reject an ordinance that would have banned sitting and lying down in commercial areas—councilmembers said the rule would hurt unhoused residents and create funding issues. City staff and nonprofit groups will keep working together to find better ways to address public space concerns.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Rian Finley has impressed as Colorado’s new starting setter for the CU Buffs volleyball team, helping them reach a 6-0 mark in their first homestand this season. The team will open the Buffs Invitational today against Arkansas at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ while Finley refines her play and communication with her hitters.  Longmont Times-Call
  • The Niwot Cougars beat Erie in a four-set volleyball match on Thursday night — the scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-14 — with key plays from sophomore Olivia Hamlin and improved serving that turned the game around. Niwot will play at home against Skyline on Tuesday while Erie meets Overland on Saturday.  Longmont Times-Call
  • BuffZone’s Brian Howell met with Adam Munsterteiger to preview Colorado Buffaloes football as the team visits Houston today at TDECU Stadium with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN — the preview noted defensive progress and highlighted player opportunities, including Simeon Price, as CU seeks a win to start Big 12 play.  Longmont Times-Call
