CRIME NEWS

  • Longmont police arrested four drivers for DUI in the past two days — two arrests on Monday at 2:13 a.m. on South Hover Street and 9:59 p.m. near 10th Avenue and Coffman Street — and also took reports for assault and trespassing.  Longmont Times-Call

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Longmont Museum will host its second annual gala, Sunset Soirée, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at 400 Quail Road—tickets cost $100 and include a three-course meal, an open bar, and live music by Denver’s 18-piece Flatirons Jazz Orchestra as all proceeds support a major expansion project.  Longmont Times-Call

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Vrain Valley School District was named Forbes Magazine's top K-12 employer in Colorado after a survey of over 160,000 workers, ranking highest among school districts on the Best-in-State Employers list. This recognition comes as the list marks its seventh year of highlighting exceptional workplaces.  Longmont Times-Call

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday evening, Longmont held a fishbowl discussion at the Senior Center where business owners and advocates debated a potential minimum wage increase for 2026; Mayor Joan Peck said city staff is gathering feedback to balance worker pay with the tight profit margins of small businesses—some owners warned that rising costs could hinder operations. City staff could not recruit enough minimum-wage workers despite incentives, and the council will review the input before making any changes.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Colorado’s legislature filled about a third of the projected state budget shortfall by ending tax breaks and generating roughly $253 million in revenue during a six-day special session that ended Tuesday afternoon. Governor Polis will address the remaining gap with spending cuts and reserve funds as debates continue—reflecting partisan differences over the measures.  Longmont Times-Call

  • CU head coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday that the Buffaloes will honor legendary coach Bill McCartney with a special uniform set—gold helmets, black jerseys, gold pants, white socks, and black shoes—for their season opener against Georgia Tech Friday night. Players will also wear a patch reading Mac 82-94—marking his impressive record and national championship run in 1990—to pay tribute to his legacy.  Longmont Times-Call
