COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Saturday's events in Longmont featured bluegrass at Left Hand Brewing, a triathlon at Longmont Recreation Center, and markets at the Boulder County Fairgrounds and Red Frog Coffee. Today's events will include a Lego club at Erie Community Library, guided tours at Old Mill Park, and a drag show at Dickens Opera House — a full range of local activities — for all ages. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At sunrise in June at Golden Ponds, photographer Maureen observed a pelican entangled in fishing line and called Animal Control after the bird freed itself onto a small island, and she named it —Percy— for its determination. On July 26, volunteers rescued Percy, but after surgery at Birds of Prey Foundation experts found that a fishing hook had severed an artery, he was euthanized. Longmont Times-Call
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traffic projects in Longmont, Boulder County, and Erie have affected local travel. In Longmont, ninth avenue closures ended on Aug. 16th, Longs Peak work runs through Aug. 18th and Coffman Street is closed until Sept. 24th while Boulder projects on Sugarloaf Road, 63rd Street and Colo. 119 (plus Erie’s WCR 7 improvements) will continue through mid-August to November. - ➤ Longmont Humane Society named Emerald as pet of the week on August 16—this four-year-old dog loved belly rubs and gentle walks and is now ready for a forever home. Longmont Times-Call
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Preston Hodge, the CU Buffs senior cornerback, will use an NCAA waiver for extra eligibility to lead his team in Boulder this season after he missed his last four games with an injury. He celebrated the news with his wife and son and said his new role as a father and husband gives him a fresh outlook—he vows to bring a different performance on the field. Longmont Times-Call
