  • Yesterday, Longmont hosted events like the Boulder County Fair kickoff party at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds and a garden market at Left Hand Brewing. CRIME NEWS

  • Longmont police reported three auto thefts Tuesday — one on South Collyer Street at 1:50 p.m., one on Clover Basin Drive at 10:19 p.m. and one on 10th Avenue at 8:38 a.m. — and handled reports of theft, assault and trespassing on Monday and Tuesday.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Michael Anthony Reyes, 33, turned himself in to Boulder County Jail on 20 child sexual exploitation charges after federal agents reportedly found up to 5,013 pieces of child sexual abuse material on his phone; he faces a preliminary hearing on August 28.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Murphy Creek updated its cellphone policy during school hours (officials said the new rules aim to reduce classroom distractions) and will enforce the changes soon.  CBS Colorado

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jared Polis announced yesterday that a special session for the state legislature will convene on August 21. He said a Congress bill caused a billion-dollar revenue loss that created a $700 million budget hole — and he set a hiring freeze starting August 27 to save $3 million.  CBS Colorado
  • Sarah Levison, who served two terms on the city council, is running for mayor and plans to repeal the 3.53% food tax—an effort aimed at reducing the burden on low-income families and seniors. She also intends to improve the city budget by inviting residents to pitch projects, drawing on her years of local experience.  Longmont Times-Call
