COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, Aug. 4, Longmont hosted free community events including a kid-friendly craft session at the Public Library at 10:30 a.m., a whiskey history talk at Spirit Hound Distillers and live music at Bootstrap Brewing at 6 p.m. — Upcoming activities include Tuesday’s dog swim at Roosevelt Activity Pool and various art and community gatherings through Friday.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Today, Longmont hosts National Night Out at Garden Acres Park, 2058 Spencer St from 5 to 7 p.m. where residents can meet first responders, view emergency vehicles, and enjoy a touch-a-truck activity for kids; a drone demonstration is set at 6 p.m.—attendees should bring lawn chairs as free food including hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, and Kona Ice snow cones will be offered.  Longmont Times-Call

CULTURE NEWS

  • Donny Most, the Happy Days actor who played Ralph Malph, now lives in Longmont and performs his big band show with songs from the Great American Songbook at Nissi’s + Dazzle in Denver. He got his love for music as a child and still sings live to entertain fans.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA approved a waiver from Colorado on Monday, August 4 that will bar SNAP benefits from being used to buy soda and sugary drinks beginning in 2026. Gov. Jared Polis said the change aims to improve health by reducing obesity, diabetes and tooth decay.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • Greg Hoffman founded Go Sober Longmont in 2013 and its treatment program has helped roughly 5,000 people since its first office opened on Coffman at Fifth in 2014. He uses FDA-approved medications and behavioral counseling to stop the urge to drink and will soon offer a DIY kit to make treatment more accessible— a program not covered by insurance —.  Longmont Times-Call
