GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Road work in Longmont and across Boulder County is set to cause lane closures and delays on Ninth Avenue, Fifth Avenue, and Longs Peak Avenue—local crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through late July and August. Additional projects in Frederick and Erie include waterline installations and road repairs with planned detours and temporary full closures, so drivers should plan for delays in the coming weeks. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Colorado gyms are offering free summer memberships for teens aged 14-19 through August 31 to help keep them active and support better health. Longmont South Planet Fitness has seen more teens using the program and parents get a free month of membership when they sign up+ the nationwide High School Summer Pass is available at 2,700+ clubs. - ➤ Boulder County Public Health inspected restaurants from June 20 to July 3 and rated them based on food safety rules, with scores calculated by adding points for each violation instead of using ranges like zero to 49. Longmont’s Nacho Mamas Tacos received 2 points—a routine score—while similar routine ratings were issued at establishments in Boulder, Erie, Lafayette, Louisville, Lyons, and Nederland. - ➤ Between June 20 and July 3, Boulder County Public Health inspected restaurants and food services using a point-based system that rates food safety standards—restaurants with higher scores must have reinspections or close due to significant violations. - ➤ The Colorado men's basketball team will make its unofficial debut on an exhibition tour in Australia by the end of the month as eight new players get on-court experience. Coach Tad Boyle faces the challenge of rebuilding a team after a poor season—three players will miss the trip due to injury and visa issues. Longmont Times-Call
- ➤ Niwot sophomore Wendy Cheruiyot earned the Longmont Times-Call golfer of the year honor after finishing sixth at the Class 4A championships (Broadlands Golf Course) in May. - ➤ Players from Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont earned spots on CHSAA’s all-state girls golf teams after strong finishes at state tournaments; Holy Family’s Peyton Mraz finished third in Class 3A while Niwot’s Wendy Cheruiyot was named to the first team in 4A.
