COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Colorado Horse Rescue in Longmont has 40 horse owners waiting to surrender their horses—up from 25 last year—while the nonprofit manages staggered intakes to prioritize urgent cases on its 50-acre site west of Longmont.  Longmont Times-Call

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 3, Longmont police responded to several incidents — a 7:06 a.m. hit and run at 1251 Grandview Meadows Drive, an 8:23 a.m. theft at 1242 Bramwood Place, a 10:27 a.m. theft at 205 3rd Avenue, a 2:40 p.m. call about a vicious dog at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Harvard Street, a 6:40 p.m. arrest for burglary at 820 2nd Avenue, and an 8:18 p.m. arrest for a restraining order violation on the 1100 block of Sumner Street — as calls emerged throughout the day.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Longmont’s Jesters Dinner Theatre is showing Oklahoma — a musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein — until Aug. 30, while shows like Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s Richard II and SAW The Musical run soon in Boulder and Denver. The programs give theater fans many choices, from fun plays for families to new kinds of shows.  Longmont Times-Call

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wet weather in spring helped ticks thrive in Colorado, and experts noted that warmer summer heat on the Front Range will soon cause them to slow down their activity. The state health department has been tracking ticks to monitor species and has advised residents to wear long clothes and use repellent when in tall grass.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

  • Today, the Longmont Humane Society named Bram the Pet of the Week—she is a loving pup who enjoys snuggling, sharing cuddles, and brightening the lives of those around her. Bram’s joyful spirit and big heart make her a cherished companion in our community.  Longmont Times-Call

SPORTS NEWS

  • Skyline senior Matt Lanier (who hit .508 this spring) was named the Longmont Times-Call baseball player of the year even though his young Falcons team ended with a record of 6 wins, 16 losses and 1 tie. He will study biology while playing Division-III baseball for the Gorloks and is expected to compete for a starting spot on first base and designated hitter next season.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Twenty-three local baseball players from Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont made CHSAA's all-state lists, with the Broomfield team leading the selections. Senior catcher Brendan Fritch (noted for his .545 average) and senior pitcher/first baseman Maverick Scarpella (with a 2.13 ERA and 75 strikeouts) were among the honorees.  Longmont Times-Call
