  • Across Colorado, cities will host fireworks displays and family festivals to celebrate Independence Day—Longmont will feature a drone and fireworks show beginning at 5 p.m. on July 4.   • Big Poppy's BBQ Sauce, made in Colorado, is sold in over 30 stores statewide—its growing demand is spurring plans to expand distribution further—and it has become a local favorite among BBQ fans.  CBS Colorado

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Conversation, a play about the Israel-Gaza conflict, was performed in Boulder on May 31 and sparked debate amid recent unrest on Pearl Street. It will continue its run in Denver next week at the Buntport Theater—showing on Wednesday, Thursday, and July 6.  Longmont Times-Call

  • Arizona Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan is preparing his team by adding new coordinators and transfers to boost both offense and defense after a 4-8 season, and they will face the CU Buffs at Folsom Field in Boulder on November 1. The Wildcats aim to overcome low expectations in the Big 12 and work toward a winning season.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Niwot junior Rocco Culpepper was named the Daily Camera Athlete of the Year after winning the mile in 4:12.23, the 800 in 1:54.51 and helping his team win the 4x800 relay at the state track meet last month. He clocked 4:03.80 in the mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles three weeks later and now hopes to break the 4-minute barrier and run the 800 in under 1:50 during his senior season.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Fawaz "Tacko" Ifaola, the only frontcourt prospect signed by head coach Tad Boyle last November, is taking extra practice reps before Colorado's four-game exhibition tour in Australia—he will not join the tour due to student visa restrictions. The Nigerian native, who grew up playing soccer, continues to develop his basketball skills in Boulder while supporting his teammates.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Forty-two high school boys from Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont earned CHSAA all-state honors in spring track and field with Niwot’s Class 4A team leading the lists—Longmont’s Teagan Malcom earned top athlete of the year honors and other local athletes excelled in events from hurdles to high jump—highlighting strong regional talent.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Longmont senior Teagan Malcom won back-to-back state titles in the 300 hurdles but missed a new record by 0.02 seconds at the state meet and cried on stage. His coach praised his record improvements while Malcom will run for the University of Colorado to further boost his local legacy.  Longmont Times-Call
