CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old man was charged after firing about four or five shots at a woman who fled her apartment in east Longmont on May 30 at 11:45 p.m. plus he was arrested on June 3, remains in custody on a $750,000 bond, and his preliminary hearing is set for June 23, according to police.  Longmont Times-Call
  • A Weld County judge issued a bench warrant for 63-year-old restaurateur Annie Vick, founder of Pinocchios, after she missed her Tuesday court date—she faces 10 counts of securities fraud and a new cash-only bond of $50,000 after being accused of embezzling over $3M from investors.  Longmont Times-Call

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Safeway workers in Colorado joined a third day of strikes that began Tuesday, with about 30 workers picketing in Grand Junction where a store closed and over 95% of workers in Fort Collins, Greeley, Longmont, Loveland and Colorado Springs voting to authorize a strike. The union said it rejected the latest offer—citing unmet demands for improved staffing, livable wages and benefits—as negotiations resumed Tuesday and again today.  Longmont Times-Call

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, the Rockies tied their franchise record by hitting seven home runs to beat the Nationals 10-6 at Nationals Park—Michael Toglia hit two homers and Thairo Estrada hit his first before leaving with a minor injury. The win marked the team’s second three-game win streak this season—providing a boost in a challenging season.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Georgia Tech, led by sixth-year senior quarterback Haynes King, will face Colorado at Folsom Field on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.—their first-ever football meeting as both teams aim to start the season strong.  Longmont Times-Call
