Good morning, Longmont. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 17th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longmont will host the fourth annual Juneteenth Community Celebration on Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Roosevelt Park— the free event offers food, live music, and special guests including Soul School, Saridae, Maputo Mensah, DJ Bigg Dadd, and Congressman Joe Neguse.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Longmont’s TinkerMill is offering certification classes on Sundays for its new 4,000-watt industrial laser that can cut 1-inch steel (the machine was donated by a Centennial medical supply company and cost $5,000 to transport). The makerspace, which spent over two years getting the laser ready, will hold a fundraiser until Aug. 1 to support necessary upgrades.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eight Black, a Longmont-based airport shuttle, ended service on Friday, June 13 due to rising costs — leaving loyal customers with prepaid vouchers and no clear refund process. Several customers reported travel difficulties and now consider seeking chargebacks or filing complaints — as they try to secure alternate transportation.  Longmont Times-Call
  • Safeway workers in Castle Rock and Denver walked off the job on Monday after a new contract offer failed to meet demands for staffing, livable wages and benefits — the union claims the move is in protest of unfair labor practices. Union members in Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Greeley and Longmont will hold strike-authorization votes tonight and Tuesday morning — a vote that may involve up to 7,000 workers if approved.  Longmont Times-Call

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boulder County Human Services released a request for application for programs that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism or brain injury and local organizations can apply before 5 p.m. June 23—this $500,000 funding from the mill levy will help fill critical service gaps.  Colorado Hometown Weekly
