Good morning, Longmont. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 1st of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Butterscotch Studios is a creative space in Longmont where locals can take music lessons, join concerts, and freely play instruments—co-owned by a local couple who want to welcome everyone.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

CRIME NEWS

  • A 31-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday when deputies found her passed out behind the wheel on Greenwood Drive in the Somerset neighborhood with undelivered mail and other items that may have been stolen in Niwot and South Longmont — she now faces charges of mail theft, possession of burglary tools, drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of drugs and unlawful possession of amphetamines.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three finalists, Timothy L. Johnson, Elizabeth H. Kelley, and Thomas M. Ward, have been named by the 20th Judicial District Nominating Commission to fill the judge vacancy created when Chief District Judge Ingrid Bakke retires on July 12 in Boulder County. Gov. Jared Polis has 15 days (until May 16) to select one nominee, and the chosen candidate will serve a two-year provisional term (pending voter approval) before a new chief district judge is appointed by the Colorado Supreme Court chief justice.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • Children’s Hospital Colorado faces a shortage of deceased donor livers, so families must search for living donors to help children survive—like the Gibsons, whose baby Stetson in Arizona needs a transplant because his waitlist time is too long. The hospital uses strict guidelines to match donors with young patients, and the Gibsons hope a donor in Colorado will come forward before his condition worsens.  Colorado Hometown Weekly

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Property valuations in the Denver metro area have remained mostly flat after years of sharp increases as assessors in eight counties report that homeowners receiving their mail this week may see slight rises in Denver, Jefferson, and Larimer along with reductions up to 7% in parts of Arapahoe — homeowners are encouraged to appeal before the June 9 deadline.  CBS Colorado
